Professional History

Carlos is a Managing Director and Market Executive for the Puerto Rico Market.  In this role, Carlos oversees our wealth management efforts in the Puerto Rico market through both UBS Financial Services Inc. and UBS Trust Company of Puerto Rico.

Carlos was the Head of UHNW for the International Division from February 2023 to January 2025.  Carlos was Location Head of the Coral Gables International Location from May 2020 to January 2023.  From May 2018 to April 2020, Carlos was Head of the UBS AG U.S. Private Bank.  From July 2014 to April 2018, Carlos was Head of Wealth Management of UBS in Puerto Rico.  From June 2003 to June 2014, Carlos  to January was Head of Capital Markets for UBS in Puerto Rico.  Prior to 2003, Carlos was an investment banker for eighteen years with The First Boston Corporation in New York and Puerto Rico and with Popular Securities in Puerto Rico.

Education

Carlos graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Masters in Business Administration.  Carlos is also a Certified Public Accountant. 

Roberto was appointed San Juan Market Head in September 2014. He sees his role as that of an enabler to his Financial Advisors and their clients, seeking to leverage all the resources UBS has to offer.

Roberto began his career in the financial services industry as an investment banker in 1992 at Lehman Brothers. In 1997 he moved to UBS also as an investment banker until 2010. At that point, he transitioned to the Wealth Management side of the Firm as Head of Puerto Rico Consulting and Wealth Planning Services. There, his team provided technical assistance and advice to many of the office’s best Institutional and Ultra High Net Worth clients.

Roberto earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from Washington University in St. Louis in 1987, and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1992. Roberto and his wife have two daughters, and live in San Juan.

Annica Ramirez is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. She currently serves as the Market Administrative Officer of the Wealth Management business in San Juan, Puerto Rico. During her tenure at UBS Financial Services, Annica has excelled in various roles, including Client Service and Supervision, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership and management skills. She is responsible for leading the administrative management team and support staff, overseeing the Market’s supervision and day-to-day operations.

Annica graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Accounting and participated in a student exchange program at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She also holds an MBA in Finance from Metropolitan University in Puerto Rico. Her credentials include Series 7, 66, 9 and 10 securities licenses, along with life, accident, and health insurance licenses in Puerto Rico. Outside of her professional life, Annica enjoys spending time with her family in Utuado. She lives in Guaynabo with her husband Omar and their three sons, Antonio and twins Elias and Mateo.

Paula Pons is the Market Operations Officer for the San Juan Market, where she leads the local operational support staff. Her duties include managing operations-related client issues, overseeing funds received and disbursed as well as securities, and serving as the branch liaison to the centralized operational Processing Center. She has more than 20 years of experience with UBS Financial Services in the Operations Department, where she began her career as a Branch Service Associate.

Paula graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, with a bachelor’s degree in Secretarial Sciences. She currently maintains her Series 7, 9, 10 and 63 securities licenses as well as the Puerto Rico Health, Life, Variable Annuity and Variable Life insurance licenses. She was born in San Juan, grew up in Lares and now resides in Guaynabo.  Her interests include outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.

Michael is the Market Supervisory Officer of the San Juan Market, responsible in partnering with the Management Team to drive proactive risk management and supervision within the market. He is also responsible for driving initiatives to sales supervision, compliance and business risk, including implementation and education. He also provides education on new compliance bulletins and operational procedures, manages the review of various supervision processes to ensure appropriate review has occurred and sustainable processes are in place.

As a Market Supervisory Officer, Michael also supports the Market in the Branch Review and Group Internal Audit processes, including on working with action plans. Finally, he partners with Compliance on all compliance matters, including providing input to policy and supporting communication of policies.

Michael began his career in UBS in 2003 as a Branch Service Associate, he has held various positions through his career at UBS, including Assistant Operations Manager, Control Officer and lastly as a Market Supervisory officer for the last 12 years. Michael has a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus and an MBA in Finance from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Michael lives in Guaynabo with his wife and daughter.

Mike currently maintains the Series 7, 66, 9/10, 24, Life and Health, Variable Life and Variable Annuities Licenses.

María Isabel Villafane serves as the Branch Office Administrator at UBS Financial Services in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing daily operations, supporting business development initiatives, and facilitating effective collaboration between financial advisors and staff. Recognized for her proactive and client-centric approach, Ms. Villafañe is dedicated to upholding operational excellence and cultivating a positive work environment.

With more than 20 years of experience at UBS Trust Company of Puerto Rico, she has held key roles in administrative operations and client relationship management, including serving as Product Specialist in IRA account services.

Ms. Villafañe studied Accounting at University of Puerto Rico and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management, along with an MBA with a concentration in International Marketing from the University of Phoenix.
